Details of finalists released for Colchester Battle of the Bands 2008
Colchester Battle of the Bands is a Borough wide competition for local young bands. Organised by Colchester Borough Council and now in its fifth year, the event has become a vital part of the cultural events programme in Colchester's live music calendar. Previous winners include ‘Shameless' in 2005, ‘Fuzztone Lily' in 2006 and ‘A Legion of Legomen' in 2007.

Criteria for entry to the event was that the average age of band members should be under 25 at the time of the event, the majority of band members should live in Colchester Borough and the band should play original material.
Abigail Cheverst, Project Co-ordinator for the event on behalf of Colchester Borough Council, says ‘We're really looking forward to another great year for Battle of the Bands. The quality of applications is very high and this event shows, the wealth of talent in the town.'
The initial selection session has now taken place for Colchester Battle of the Bands 2008 and the list of finalists has been announced.
Young people from Essex Youth Services listened to the 14 submissions for this year's competition and selected 8 entries to progress to the final event at Colchester Arts Centre in May. The bands were judged on criteria relating to enjoyment, originality and technical ability.
The 8 finalist bands have been announced as follows:

Five Day High
Heroes of a Ghost Town
On the Roof
Shotgun Affair
Stand Still Kid
Tequila Rose
The Rising Dogs
The bands will go on to the final night at Colchester Arts Centre on Saturday 10th May where each plays a half an hour slot to an open audience.
Judges active in the local music scene: Simon Baker, Editor of Music Zine, Anabell Cooper, ex Wivenhoe May Fair coordinator and Neal Hargreaves, The Twist Manager will take part in a final voting process, on the night, to choose the overall winner of the competition.
